Chinese New Year; The Chinese festival celebrating the beginning of the new year on a traditional Chinese calendar.

It is one of several Lunar New Years in Asia. It is also known as the Spring festival as it marks the end of the coldest days, marking a fresh start. The date varies each year and ranges between January 21st and February 20th. This year, the first day of the festival was on Saturday 25th January, initiating the Year of the Rat!

It is a big celebration and family reunion for many around the world. It features decorations, especially lanterns, food. The zodiac animal plays a big role in celebrations. The Rat is the first of all zodiac animals and is said to represent the beginning of a new day and is often seen as a sign of wealth and surplus.

There is plenty of fun-filled family excitement surrounding this fabulous celebration, from parades, lantern statues, lion dances, fireworks and of course the food.
