When you are looking for places to go in the East Midlands, head to Loughborough and experience a steam train ride on a day out with the kids on the heritage railway in Leicestershire. The double track line that runs between Loughborough and Leicester North is the UK’s only mainline heritage railway.
The route used to be the main Great Central Railway line between London and Manchester and was begun in Victorian times. Visit the museum at Loughborough and delve into the history with interesting memorabilia of a bygone era.
Look out for the events held throughout the year including lots of children’s activities and events such as Peppa & George fun days, Easter Bunny events, Halloween events and Santa specials. Plan your day out and check the online timetable for a round trip taking in the chance to enjoy refreshments in the tea rooms at each station.
