Smoo Cave

Smoo Cave is a great tourist attraction for all the family, set into Sutherland’s strikingly dramatic limestone cliffs. It is thousands of years old and was formed by both the river and the sea which can still be seen lapping against the cave during high tide. Families are welcome to explore the cave either on foot or by boat, making the trip ideal for those with adventurous kids. One of the largest in Britain, the Smoo Cave entrance stands at 50 ft. high. There is a variety of plant and birdlife, often nestled away in areas of the cave, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled. The cave is also shrouded in mystery and surrounded by legend so it’s definitely one to visit if you and your family like a good ghost story!
