Cape Wrath details...

Stuck for ideas for things to do with the family in Sutherland? Head to the iconic Cape Wrath, the most north-westerly point in mainland Britain for unforgettable views of stunning coastlines and wilderness. With no obstructions between the Cape and the Arctic, both Orkney and the Western Isles can be seen, which makes for a beautiful backdrop to photos of you and the kids. The name Фwrath’ derives from the Old Norse for Фturning point’ and the Cape forms a meeting point between the north and west Scottish coasts. It is also believed that Vikings used it as a navigational point to turn their ships. An excellent outdoors trip, the family can see the Cape’s cliffs, which rise 360 feet from the sea, with a solitary lighthouse tower that is strikingly set against the sky and sea. Cape Wrath is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest as well as a designated Special Protection Area, home to large colonies of seabirds.
