Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park details...

Offering endless inspiration for memorable family days out in Wales, the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) stretch from Llandeilo in the west to Hay-on-Wye in the east. So explore over 500 square miles with family attractions, a fascinating heritage, host of opportunities for walking, cycling and adventure activities, wildlife and stunning scenery including mountains, moorland and waterfalls.

All ages will be spoilt for choice! For instance, there are castles, museums, industrial heritage sites, underground caverns, adventure parks, steam railways and canal boat trips. Also, families with older children can take advantage of the many adventure activities on offer such as mountain biking, water sports, caving, hiking and abseiling.

In addition, the whole of Bannau Brycheiniog National Park is an International Dark Sky Reserve. The reduction of light pollution in the National Park means that it is a great place for stargazing. So gather the family together on a clear night and look forward to enjoying amazing sights such as the Milky Way and major constellations. You may even be treated to a meteor shower or, on rare occasions, even a view of the Northern Lights!

Finally, a great place to begin a day out in the National Park is the Mountain Centre (National Park Visitor Centre) near Libanus, about 10km south of Brecon. Open throughout the year, the centre offers wonderful views as well as a wealth of local information and a tea room.

Please see Bannau Brycheiniog National Park’s website to find out more and start planning activities for the family.
