Bolsover Castle details...

For a perfect day out with the family enjoy the fairytale Castle at Bolsover perched on a ridge over the scenic landscape in Derbyshire.

Highlights of the 17th century aristocratic abode include the sumptuously painted walls and ceilings of the Little Castle created by Sir William Cavendish; intricately carved fireplaces and the magnificent indoor Riding School. The castle stands on the foundations of an 11th century castle built by William Peveril, one of William the Conqueror’s knights, but it was neglected from the mid-14th century onwards until Sir Charles Cavendish restored it in 1612.

There are plenty of things to do for all the family; from the fascinating audio-visual displays in the Discovery Centre to exploring the extensive grounds that surround the castle. Discover this attraction’s intriguing history and take the wall-walk that offers stunning views out over the landscape and the Fountain Garden with its Venus Fountain at its centre.

See the Riding School brought to life at one of the Cavalier Horsemanship displays that take place regularly from April to September. The costumed dressage display is performed to baroque music of the period and is an amazing display of riding skill.

Pack a family picnic and enjoy panoramic views out over the Vale of Scarsdale or find delicious snacks and drinks in the tea room.

Look out for family events, the Cavalier Horsemanship display dates and living history re-enactments that offer an exciting glimpse into  history.
