The Treak Cliff Cavern in Castleton is a great place to go with the kids to discover how blue john stone was mined back in the 1750s. Descend deep down into the limestone cavern to see the unusual stalactites, stalagmites and flow stone formations in ‘Aladdin’s Cave’, ‘Fairyland’ and ‘Dreamcave’ chambers. Recent mining has revealed a new vein called the Ridley Vein. During school holidays you can polish your own piece of blue john stone to take home with you.
