For a fascinating family day out, visit this amazing museum in London. Wonder at the history of cultures from around the world. Explore and learn with the family trails, activity backpacks, hands-on tables and events including workshops and storytelling. Founded in 1753, the British Museum’s extraordinary collection spans over two million years of human history.
Visitors can discover thousands of artefacts and treasures from all corners of the world and ages. World-famous objects such as Parthenon Sculptures, Egyptian mummies and the iconic Rosetta Stone are just a few of the exhibits visited by up to six million people per year. Remember to look out for special exhibitions, displays and events that run in the museum, each designed to further and advance understanding of the different collections and cultures they represent. Daily object handling sessions are also available for families to go to, these are free to go to and provide a unique opportunity to handle objects from the Museum’s collections.
School group visits are welcome but are advised to book in advance. There are a number of downloadable resources for teacher to access online before and after visits to the museum. The Museum provides a variety of different trails for visitors to try including the Museum Explorer or 12 Things to see with children. Trail information can be found online and also at the museum. Free activities and workshops using the latest Samsung digital equipment, enabling children to bring the world’s history and cultures to life through advanced technology.
