Fort Nelson details...
Fort Nelson is part of a massive ring of brick, masonry and earth forts, and was built to provide the fire power to deter enemy attacks on Portsmouth from inland. Overlooking Portsmouth Harbour, Fort Nelson has been restored to its original state, together with important parts of its Second World War heritage.
Discover who built this fort and the volunteer garrison that were stationed there. The Voice of the Guns Gallery and The Story of Artillery traces the development of artillery from pre-gunpowder siege machines to modern-day super guns.
All the family will have fun exploring this vast 19-acre monument, including the underground tunnels and magazines, and enjoy spectacular views of the Solent and Meon Valley from the ramparts.
