The famous Norman Durham Cathedral started in 1038 is a World Heritage Site and resting place of St Cuthbert and fascinating as part of a family day out in Durham city. Climb the 325 steps of the tower to view the surrounding area, minimum height 1.30 metres (small charge). Family events and workshops run throughout the year. Look out for the autumn event when the cathedral is beautifully illuminated in Durham’s Lumiere Festival of Light, held in November each year.
