Award yourself a grand day out with all the family and step down memory lane as you experience the brightly painted trams that run to and fro down the cobbled village street. Ride the trams and take a journey from the former Derby Assembly Rooms before passing under the Bowes-Lyon Bridge and climbing a mile of track that provides breathtaking views of the surrounding Derbyshire countryside.
The trams are set in a village scene from a bygone era, with buildings that have been rescued from towns and villages across Britain and lovingly rebuilt brick by brick. Look out for the Bundy Clock at Town End Terminus and Doncaster Tram Depot’s windows in the Exhibition Hall. Learn about the history of tram transport in the Exhibition Hall that displays ‘A Century of Trams’ through interactive visuals and archive film footage.
Look out for the regular special events when the Tramway Village becomes a backdrop to another era. Why not step into the 1950s and join the sing-along music?
There are plenty of children’s activities on offer to keep the kids amused, there’s craft activities (during school holidays and special events) in the Learning Centre or they can let off steam in the indoor soft play and outdoor adventure play areas. Experience the fascinating Woodland Walk & Sculpture Trail and discover a number of large entertaining wooden sculptures created by the resident sculptor. Wander further into the woodland with the aid of an information backpack and before you wind your way back to the village, eat a family picnic at the Labyrinth picnic area.
The Red Lion Pub and Tram Stop Café offer a range of refreshments for you to enjoy a full family day out before you return home to the 21st century!
