Birdworld on the Surrey border with Hampshire is a great place to take the children for a fun and informative day out.
In addition to a walk around 26 acres of aviaries and beautiful landscaped gardens, families can enjoy one of the most popular events – seeing the penguins being fed by a keeper and learning all about them! A huge part of anyone’s visit to Birdworld just has to be the shows that take place throughout the day.
Popular exhibits include The Terry Pratchett Owl Parliament, Penguin Beach and Flamingo Cove whilst, Underwater World and The Jenny Wren Farm also prove to be a big hit with all who visit.
The Discovery Theatre show (all year round) and the Outdoor Flying display (Easter to the end of October) are where you will meet some of the real characters. From parrots to owls and many other kinds of birds, you will be amazed as these wonderful animals swoop overhead to the delight of everyone watching.
Younger children will particularly enjoy Animal Encounter sessions at Jenny Wren Farm, where they will find cute and fluffy animals waiting to say hello and to be stroked.
The on-site aquarium, Underwater World is included in the ticket price and there you can come face to face with piranhas, meet dwarf crocodiles and see beautiful seashores, clown fish and colourful coral.
You can also go on a Safari Train Ride through the park to meet some of the larger inhabitants, including cranes, rheas and emus. The keeper will give a commentary, giving you some interesting facts and letting you know which animal is which!
We visited Birdworld over the Easter holidays with our children (aged 5 & 7 years) and had an amazing time! The children loved all the different birds, especially seeing the peacocks wandering around and talking to the parrot! The farm is a lovely addition and being able to pet the animals was a big hit. A great park with climbing etc and a nice picnic area too. The staff were friendly and luckily the weather was dry! A great day, we will definitely go back.
