August Family Events at The National Gallery

Make the most of a family day out at The National Gallery in London this August by choosing a date when there are special family activities available. These special events offer a fun introduction to art for all ages.

Available activities vary depending on the date of your visit. Places are limited and allocated on a first come, first served basis.

• Decoding Pictures Family Tour. Become a detective solving mysteries as you explore paintings with Gallery Educators.
• Summer in the Studio – Masks of the Carnival. Decide which animal you want to be and then use colourful papers, feathers and drawing materials to create you own animal mask.
• Stories in the Gallery. Join Preacher the Storyteller in the Gallery, who will bring the children’s creativity to life in story form.
• Creative Canaletto Family Tour. Families can discover paintings together and then get hands on with artist materials to develop their own creative responses.
• Summer in the Studio – Paper Cities. Build your own paper city, taking inspiration from Canaletto’s painting ’A Regatta on the Grand Canal’.
• Summer in the Studio – Postcards from Venice. Use collage and oil pastels to create a postcard inspired by Canaletto’s ’A Regatta on the Grand Canal’, then write a message to someone about the journey you can imagine taking.
