The Royal Gunpowder Mills details...

The Royal Gunpowder Mills is a great place to spend a day out experiencing at first-hand some of the science behind the explosives and rockets in the Mad Lab, which is filled with curious contraptions, extra-ordinary experiments and mysterious machines!

At the Rocket Vault you can see everything from tank busters to rocket motors, used to launch satellites into space as well as some of the secret rockets worked on at Waltham Abbey.

The Armoury, one of the most popular attractions, has a comprehensive collection of small arms and militaria, displaying over 200 historic firearms from the English Civil War to present day conflicts.

There are also a lot of activities that children can take part in. They can have a go at kid’s archery, enjoy hands on activities in the Wildlife Tower, try their skills on the BB airsoft rifle range, build and fire air rockets and race water rockets!

Families can explore the large island site on a Land Train Tour or go on a Military Truck. It’s also fun to go for a ride on The Bangs Galore and Gunpowder Creek Railway, a 7 1/4 inch gauge miniature train.

Take a picnic and let the kids have fun on the zip-wires, swings and obstacle courses at the playground, or visit the Gunpowder Cafe. Please check the website for times of trains and tours.
