If you are looking for a fun and unforgettable place to go with the kids in Buckinghamshire, then the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre is a must to visit. This great little award-winning museum is aimed at 6 to 12 year olds and their families and is situated in Great Missenden where Roald Dahl lived and wrote.
The museum encourages children to get creative, with over 40 hands-on displays and activities. Discover how Roald Dahl’s amazing characters and stories were inspired by the people, places and events in his own life. The Museum has three fun and fact-packed galleries: Boy, focusing on Dahl’s childhood; Solo, which features his original Writing Hut, birthplace of all his wonderful children’s stories; and the Story Centre, where you can create your own words, stories and characters.
In the school holidays and at weekends, an inspiring range of workshops, events and free storytelling sessions take place. Free craft activities are always on offer. The Village and Countryside Trails lead intrepid visitors around Great Missenden and into the woods and fields to see the places that feature in the stories. The Café serves a family-friendly range of home-made lunches, cakes and treats, while the Shop is a treasure-trove of books, toys, gifts and pocket-money items.
