Poole Pottery details...

If you are planning a day out in Dorset with the kids, then come to Poole Pottery at the Quay and visit Poole Studio and see some of the artists at work, creating different ceramic pieces that are now famous around the world.

On a typical visit, in the Studio you will see the master potter working at his wheel as well some of the designers. Each piece they work on is hand crafted and starts out as a piece of clay formed into a shape. When it has been thrown, it is dried and fired in the kilns. If it is of an acceptable standard, the bisque piece is then hand decorated by one of the skilled artists and this is what makes each piece so unique, as no two pieces will ever be the same. The artist then puts their own personal mark on the bottom of each piece prior to firing which adds to the value of collecting the pottery.

At the Quay there is also a shop and a Paint a Pot Studio where everyone can take part and have a fun time painting a piece of pottery, creating their very own masterpiece to remind them of their visit to Poole Pottery. There is a wide selection of ceramic pieces to choose from including little monsters, keepsake boxes, moneyboxes, plates and mugs.

Prices start from around £7 and there is no studio fee. It’s also a great place for a birthday party where everyone invited can take part.
