Paxton House offers families a fun-filled day out. Set in 80 acres of grounds and gardens, there is lots to see and do. Outside, there is an exciting adventure playground for kids, with slides, swings, a zip wire and lot of places to climb! All the family can enjoy a tranquil riverside walk or go on a woodland trail. Look out for the Highland cattle in the fields adjacent to the house, as well as the vast variety of wildlife in the woodland. Children can pick up a trail sheet in the shop and follow the Teddy Trail signs around the grounds!
There is an original boathouse, which has now been carefully restored from Victorian plans. Boat trips are also available, from Paxton House upstream to Horncliffe. The trips last about an hour, and take in the wonderful scenery with information on the fishing shiels, net fishing, mansion houses, wildlife and the River Tweed. Have fun strolling around the gardens, visit the apple yard and ponds, or have a game of pitch and putt or croquet on the lawn!
Set on the Scottish border, Paxton House is one of Northumberland’s finest examples of neo-Palladian architecture and can be viewed whilst going on a guided tour. Children will be kept busy with the fun teddy trail which goes throughout the house. Help them spot the bears, while you enjoy the impressive rooms and rare collections, including Chippendale and Trotter furniture. There is also an extensive costume collection and children can dress up in Georgian and Regency type costumes!
