Stand tall with giraffes, walk on the wild side with lemurs, meet England’s only koalas and get up close to many of Africa and Asia’s majestic animals during a family day out at Longleat, the fabulous safari and adventure park near Warminster in Wiltshire.
Set in 900 acres of grounds and gardens created by the renowned ’Capability’ Brown, Longleat House allows visitors to go back in time, experiencing over 450 years of history in one of Britain’s finest stately homes. Discover over 15 grand rooms and make your way down sweeping corridors to hear ghostly tales of the Grey Lady and marvel at priceless antiques and many treasures including fine tapestries and exquisite ceilings and paintings.
One of the highlights of your day out will be the Safari Drive Through. Visit Wolf Wood, enjoy watching giraffe and zebra graze, observe the cheetah and brave the infamous Monkey Drive-Through, one of Longleat’s most unforgettable experiences! Don’t miss the two prides of lions, tigers, southern white rhinos, camels and wildebeest.
After your safari, head for the Main Square where you can enjoy encounters with Longleat’s colony of Humboldt penguins, hop on the Jungle Express or take a Jungle Cruise round Half Mile Lake, past the gorilla colony with sea lions as escort. Get close to a host of exotic animals such as giant anteaters, porcupines, coati and more in Jungle Kingdom.
Stroll through Monkey Temple, home to marmosets and tamarins, explore the walkthrough meerkat enclosure and peer into the open-air pool to see eight species of ray. Meet Egyptian fruit bats, touch tarantulas, stroke snakes, watch a parrot show and cuddle rabbits and guinea pigs.
New in spring 2019 was Koala Creek. So take the children to meet the Safari Park’s furthest travelled residents – a group of Southern koalas and a couple of delightful wombats. Potoroo will also be living in the antipodean abode.
Children will love exploring the Adventure Castle, an enchanting medieval fortress and adventure playground, cooling off in the Splashpad during the warmer summer months and finding their way out of one of the world’s biggest hedge mazes. The very youngest visitors will be delighted by all the fun things to do in both Play Kingdom and Little Explorer’s Garden.
During the year, look out for events such as Easter shows, firework spectaculars and the Festival of Light at Christmas. For a very special experience, check out overnight stays in accommodation on the Estate.
Please visit Longleat’s website for further details including opening times and ticket information.
Lantern trail, Santa Train, Drive Through Safari and more! Enjoy the Festival of Light at Longleat on selected dates from 9th November to 5th January.

This was my first trip to Longleat and it did not disappoint! The safari was one of the highlights of the day, great to see so many animals up close and driving through the monkeys was highly amusing, luckily no damage to the car either! We went during the Christmas period so we could also see the Festival of Light which was beautiful to walk round and was an added bonus to the great day we were having. Would definitely recommend a visit to Longleat and the festival of lights.
