One of the great places to go in Lancaster is the imposing Lancaster Castle owned by the Duchy of Lancaster. Take the tour and find out about the history from Roman times to its use as a prison until recently. Hear gruesome tales about executions and the ’Lancashire Witches’, explore the gloomy buildings, discover its famous prisoners, visit the Grand Jury Room, the Crown Court and the dungeons. Look out for the great family events throughout the year.
Lancaster Castle is open daily for guided tours, special events and group bookings, public access to the interiors of the castle buildings is by guided tour only. Tours run regularly throughout the day, from 10.30am (10am at weekends) until 4pm.
