Killhope - the North of England Lead Mining Museum details...

Pull on your wellies or sturdy boots for an interesting exploration of the life of a lead mining family at the restored Killhope  North of England Lead Mining Museum in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Upper Weardale.

At the Victorian mine see the working waterwheel and get hands-on searching for lead ore as a ’washerboy’.You may find shiny bits of quartz, fluorspar or galena amongst the silt.

Tour the underground Park Level Mine, wearing a hard hat, wellies and cap lamps. Investigate the working machinery in the Jigger House.

Refreshments are on offer in the cafe and shop for you to complete your visit and if you have never stayed in a yurt before why not consider an overnight stay one of three yurts at the museum.

Children under 4 years have free entry and for health and safety reasons are not permitted on the mine tour.
