Hamsterley Forest

Pack a picnic and get out in the fresh air with the kids for a family outing to the popular Hamsterley Forest near Bishop Auckland. Hire a bike and explore 33 miles of waymarked trails. Alternatively, follow one of the walking or horse riding trails and let the kids have fun in the adventure play area.

Hamsterley Forest’s new Viking Wildplay Trail is set along an 800 metre long path straddling both sides of the bubbling Bedburn Beck. It features a number of timber play structures designed and offers plenty of opportunities for kids to play in mature woodland and in the beck itself. All the ingredients for an adventure, from mud to water and sticks-a-plenty to build that perfect shelter. Allow 2 hours for the kids to fully explore.
