Enjoy a day out with the kids at Cliveden near Maidenhead. Cliveden’s beautiful and impressive gardens are set high above the River Thames and have hidden follies, statues, a Greek amphitheatre and miles of woodland to enjoy. It is a fascinating place to visit, whatever the weather and in every season; visitors are even able to picnic in parts of the grounds.
So set off to explore 500 metres of winding paths and two-metre-high hedges in the Cliveden Maze, a challenge for anyone, young or old. In particular, look out for the Storybook Play Den where you will find wooden carvings of favourite storybook characters. Also, don’t forget to search out Clive’s Den located near the play trail. Why not have fun building your very own den out of fallen branches in the woodlands?
For over 300 years, Cliveden was the home of dukes, earls and viscounts, where political gatherings were hosted. The former home of the Astor family and famous for its association with the Profumo Affair, the beautiful house is now a hotel. Short guided tours are available at certain times of the year.
There is a busy events calendar, which features family-friendly events. These include trails, Easter Egg hunts and Wild Wednesdays where visitors can get close to nature and go on an adventure in the fresh air.
Please see the National Trust’s website to find out more before visiting.
