Plan a day out with the kids in North Wales at Chirk Castle, a magnificent medieval fortress near Wrexham. Chirk was built between 1295 and 1310 by Roger Mortimer, who served Edward I and then Edward II. Step back to the past as you explore the Adam Tower and spot the dungeons and murder holes. Encourage the kids to imagine what daily life in medieval times must have been like.
Since the end of the 16th century the fortress has been an elegant family home and is still inhabited today. Wander through furnished rooms, admire the State Rooms and learn about the lives of the families who have lived there. Outside are glorious gardens, woodland, acres of parkland for family walks and an outdoor play area at Home Farm with natural wooden equipment.
