Brecon Mountain Railway

A steam train ride on the Brecon Mountain Railway through the beautiful Brecon Beacons National Park is one of the fun family things to do near Merthyr Tydfil. The railway runs from Pant all the way to Torpantau, a return journey of about 90 minutes, which includes taking passengers along the full length of the Taf Fechan Reservoir and a 25-minute stop at Pontsticill station allowing passengers to disembark and explore. One-way steam train rides between stations along the line are also available. Allow time to visit the workshop at Pant where carriages and steam locomotives are repaired.
