One of the great places to go with kids in Berkshire is Beale Park near Reading. With fun, adventure, animals, gardens, activities and play on the banks of the beautiful River Thames, there will be something for everybody in this wildlife park and gardens.
Enjoy a ride on the narrow-gauge diesel railway and take young children to have fun in Little Tikes Indoor Play Area, jam-packed with favourite toys ranging from rocking horses and ride-ons to activity gyms and play houses.
Play areas include an adventure playground, paddling pools in the warmer months, a sandpit, aerial cableway and Roplay, a network of ropes. Buy an ’Animal Athletics’ score card from the Ticket Office and see whether you can hold your breath for as long as an otter, hang like a monkey or run faster than a cheetah!
There’s a wonderfully diverse collection of animals to meet such as wallabies, meerkats, ring-tailed lemurs, river hogs, monkeys, raccoons and a host of small mammals in Pets’ Corner. Visit the owlery, walk-through aviary and bird hide to see some of the 120 species of birds that live at Beale Park. The Deer Park is home to three species of deer – Fallow, Sika and Axis, a picnic area and a very popular 25m zipwire.
Take a trip down memory lane at Treasured Toys, an exhibition of toys from the 50s, 60s and 70s, see more than 400 model boats and planes in the museum housed in the Pavilion and wander through the lovely gardens with sculptures, trails and lakes.
What a wonderful place for children’s birthday parties! Please note that all attractions and activities are subject to availability.
