For a great family day out visit Battle Abbey, the site of the 1066 Battle of Hastings. This battlefield is now covered in wild flowers and lovely birdsong, but it once played host to thousands of fighting men!
Start your journey through the ages with the introductory film in the visitor Centre which vividly re-tells the story of the great battle. You can also enjoy the exhibition in the newly opened Gatehouse and visit the rooftop viewing platform, with a stunning panoramic view out across the town and the 1066 landscape.
Explore the atmospheric ruins of William the Conqueror’s famous Abbey and stand on the very spot where King Harold is said to have died. You can now also climb the staircase to explore the first floor!
There is also a lovely Walled Garden to stroll through, which is also home to the beehives that produce honey for the cafe and shop. Next to the cafe and picnic area is the natural play area which is a great space to further inspire children’s imaginations.
Look out for great family-friendly events, outdoor theatre shows, falconry displays and exciting re-enactments that are regularly held.
