Keep in contact
Everyone around the world is mainly home so use this time to catch up with your grandchildren and also long lost friends on the phone. It’s good to chat and find out how everyone is.
Start a family tree
This is a good time to start investigating your past. You can get your kids and grandchildren involved too in the big search. https://www.ancestry.co.uk is a good place to start.
Make a map with the grandchildren
As the family tree takes shape, let the grandchildren make a map of where all the family members come from or have lived and mark them on a map to see the spread of your family.
Be brave and get techy
Download HouseParty or Zoom and have a virtual get together you’re your family and your friends.
Help with the homework…..
Get out the atlas and teach the capitals of the world to your grandchildren or help them talk through a project or idea. Your wealth of knowledge will be an inspiration.
….Or Teach a skill
Use up old balls of wool to knit a long scarf for your grandkids or better still try and teach your grandchildren how to knit or sew on a video call… now there is a challenge!
Add to the dressing up box
We know kids of all ages love dressing up so now you have time, go through your wardrobe and dig out some old things. You can show the children what’s coming their way and keep in a bag for when you can safely pass over. Remember teenagers love to redesign and repurpose clothes too so don’t forget them!
Create a family recipe book
Tidy up your recipe notes, get them into order and start a Family Recipe Book that can be passed down through the family, so the grandkids will know how to make the family favourites. Send over your favourite recipe for them to try and bake.
Photo albums
Go through all the old family photos, name all the people in the photos as far as you can and date them if you can remember. Pick a couple of photos and tell the kids the story behind the photo.
Plan a fun day out in the future
Take a trip down memory lane and plan to visit one of the Living History Museums around the county once we are out and about again. You can ask the kids to take a look and plan what they would like to see with you.
