Located only 7 miles from the centre of Northampton, Salcey Forest is an oasis of nature and history. This magnificent woodland has many miles of ancient wood banks, building remains and ancient trees. The ’druids’, or veteran oaks, are rare and amazing wildlife habitats, and some of the old oaks are over 600 years old. See what you can spot on your visit to the medieval royal hunting forest.
Take your binoculars to spot the wildlife, listen out for bird calls that you can identify and look to the ground for all kids of wild plants, fungi and insects.
With endless walking trails, a family cycling trail, adventure play area and an onsite café selling tasty homemade meals and cakes, a visit to the forest makes a perfect family adventure for all ages.
Open daily except Christmas Day at 8am – 5pm (Nov – Mar) and 8am – 9pm (Apr – Oct); there is a small parking charge. Check the website for cafe opening times before setting out.
