Have a free family day out at Sandwell Valley Nature Reserve, an oasis for wildlife close to the centre of Birmingham. It’s a great place to spot different birds all year round so remember your binoculars! Also look out for wildflowers and insects in spring and summer. There are self-led family activities, nature trails, a visitor centre, natural play features and a picnic area.
A circular trail of 1.6km leads visitors around Forge Mill Lake and takes about 40 minutes to complete. Keep your eyes open for kingfishers! Adding to the interest is Forge Mill Farm, managed by Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council. The farm has rare breed animals, a play area and other facilities.
The nature reserve is open at all times.
The car park and visitor centre are normally open from Tuesday to Sunday only, times vary.
Please see the RSPB’s website for up-to-date information before travelling.
