A visit to Newstead Abbey makes a fabulous day out for all the family. Initially founded in the 12th century as a monastic house, the Abbey later became the home of Lord Byron.
There is plenty to see in the house that has an extensive collection of beautiful artefacts from past centuries; the wonderful parkland has themed landscape gardens, wander through the Japanese garden, the French garden, the Spanish garden, the Fernery and many more.
There are delightful lakeside picnic spots where you can set up your picnic blanket, let the kids run off some energy in the children’s playground and see what resident wildlife to you can spot. Look out for the special events held throughout the year that are great fun for families.
Entry to the grounds is free but parking is charged. The historic house is open at weekends and school holidays and the grounds all year round. Tours are available for house or gardens, book online. Children have free entry.
