A fantastic free day for the whole family awaits when you visit the award winning museum in York. At the Railway Museum explore three giant halls full of trains and carriages including iconic engines such as The Flying Scotsman, The Mallard, a Eurostar engine, the Japanese Bullet Train, and the Chinese locomotive, one of the largest steam engines ever built in Britain. Peer into the Royal trains and carriages from years gone by, watch engines move on the turntable, and learn control signals.
There are heaps of things to do with daily demonstrations, story telling sessions, miniature railway, road train rides, loads of interactive exhibits, science shows and a full events programme with fun family friendly themes.
Check the website for changing exhibitions and arrival of visiting engines. There are charges for some activities. Although the museum entrance is free, tickets need to be booked on the website.
