London Museum of Water and Steam details...

Children will love the world’s largest collection of steam pumping engines at the London Museum of Water & Steam and many of them are in steam at weekends. At this family-friendly museum, families can enjoy indoor and outdoor hands-on fun, learning about London’s water over time and the amazing changes in technology that have occurred in order to bring it to our taps.

Visitors will be impressed by the nine massive water pumping engines, including the world’s largest working beam engine still in its original Victorian location. Kids can follow Splash the Museum cat around the family trail and every weekend families have the chance to ride the Waterworks Steam Railway.

In the new outdoor Splash Zone, kids have the opportunity to have plenty of fun with water and this is currently proving to be a firm favourite with families as well as with the grown-ups! In the Waterworks Gallery, kids are able to learn about the story of London’s water supply. The Gallery comes with new interactive exhibits and artefacts from London’s watery past.

Visit the Victorian laboratory and find out how scientific discoveries helped pioneers to make 19th-century London water safe from deadly diseases like cholera and, in the process, save millions of lives as a result. The museum also offers a range of fun and educational sessions for children at all Key Stage levels as well as programmes developed specifically for Higher Education. For more information on bringing school groups to the museum, please check out the website to learn what they have to offer.
