Arm yourself with a picnic and enjoy a free family day out in the West Midlands at 524-acre Lickey Hills Country Park, just ten miles south west of Birmingham. There is a choice of marked walking trails as well as paths and tracks to follow. Look out for sculptures as you explore. The geology trail leads visitors along a route which takes in all five of the main rock types that make up the Lickey Hills.
Beacon Hill is the most famous viewpoint at the Lickey Hills. The hill gives expansive views of the surrounding countryside. There’s an orientation table in a small fort on the top of the hill which points out the direction to notable landscape features you can see from Beacon Hill. On a clear day, you can have fun trying to see 13 old counties that are marked on the table.
Remember kites and a ball to make the most of the grassy areas. Other family attractions include an adventure playground for children, a free table-tennis table close to the Visitor Centre and a six-hole tri-golf course for children and families near the golf clubhouse.
Please see Birmingham City Council’s website for up-to-date information before travelling.
