Opening in 1904, Kings Theatre was designed by famed architect Frank Matcham for the Howard & Wyndham theatre group. The theatre features a mix of different styles influenced by Art Nouveau and Baroque, and when it was built cost £50,000, which would equate to approximately £3.5 million today. The King’s Theatre underwent renovation in 2008 during which the interior was refurbished and the theatre restored to its former glory.
The theatre has a seating capacity of 1,785 and provides seating on four levels: Gallery, Upper Circle, Grand Circle and Stalls. The unique design of the theatre minimized the need for supporting pillars, so nearly all seats in the theatre have a reasonably good view of the stage.
