A visit with the family to Kielder Water & Forest Park will not disappoint. This 250-square-mile park has Northern Europe’s largest man-made lake, forests with cycle trails, sculptures, a maze, play area, birds of prey centre and family friendly events. There are visitor centres at Tower Knowe, Leaplish and Kielder Castle and the Kielder Observatory. Check the website and discover all the amazing things you can do with the kids.
The new Sill: National Landscape Discovery Centre was opened in 2017, a state of the art £14.8 million visitor centre featuring a 90-seater café, 86-bed Youth Hostel, gift shop, exhibition spaces, a rural business hub, learning and event spaces, a national park information point and a fully accessible Whin Sill Grassland roof, The Sill is open daily between 9.30am and 6pm.
Try the brand new Zip Coaster introduced in 2019 where you can enjoy the ups and downs, twists and turns of the free flying zip wire, The custom built Kielder Zip Coaster allows you to glide amongst the trees at 20mph in the harnessed seat. The ride includes a 270 degree bend and zero gravity drop!
Look out for the events taking place throughout the year, particularly the Winter Wonderland event at Christmas time that is a fabulous seasonal treat for all the family.
