Hyde Park details...

For a fun destination with the kids, head to Hyde Park, one of eight Royal Parks in London and one of the greatest city parks in the world. It covers 350 acres, with over 4,000 trees, a large lake the Serpentine, a meadow and ornamental flower gardens and there’s a good chance you’ll forget you are right in the centre of a city.

Whether you are there for a simple picnic or a game of frisbee, Hyde Park has something for everyone and is perfect for a family day out. You can go on a self-guided walk, enjoy swimming, boating, cycling and skating. The Serpentine Lido and paddling pool are great fun for families, opening between May and September (family ticket around Ј12). There are pitches for team games, tennis courts, tracks for horse riding, a spectacular children’s playground and an Education Centre.

The park has two lakeside restaurants and is home to a number of fascinating buildings and monuments, such as the Serpentine Bridge, the Joy of Life Fountain and the famous statue of Achilles. The Hyde Park Playground allows for creative play and children can enjoy the swings, slide and climbing frame. And with the beautiful and peaceful Diana Memorial Fountain and open-air events throughout the year, there’s always something to see and do. If you’re out and about on Sundays, head to Speakers’ Corner beside Park Lane to hear London’s most vocal orators share their opinions with the world. Ice skating is available from November to January (separate charge applies).
