Hestercombe Gardens offers a fun family day out near Taunton in Somerset with plenty to interest a wide age range. With 50 acres of beautiful gardens, surrounded by countryside and endless fresh air, Hestercombe is the perfect place for families to discover together. So have fun in the natural play area in the Landscape Garden, spot wildflowers and butterflies at the meadow, paddle in the stream or play hide and seek around the gardens – or have a run around and go exploring!

A fantastic programme of family-friendly events runs throughout the year. Choose from wild crafts, trails, outdoor theatre, school holiday activities and more, in addition to regular indoor and outdoor art exhibitions at Hestercombe Gallery. Something for everyone to enjoy!

You will find plenty of food options for children. The Stables Restaurant serves a delicious range of homemade, locally sourced food; light bites, including sandwiches and baguettes, cake and yummy local ice cream, Baboo, are available from Caffè + Gelato, with plenty of space for buggies and high chairs. Both the café and restaurant are dog-friendly.

There are two play areas at Hestercombe. For under 7s, head up to the picnic area to find a handy spot at lunchtime or for one last play before you head home. This play area is kitted out with playhouses, a little slide and woodchip underfoot for a soft landing. Children of any age are welcome at our natural play area in the gardens, with den-making, stepping stone logs and noughts and crosses on offer.

Gardens: open daily, 10am to 6pm; last entry 4.30pm (4pm in winter).

Stables Restaurant: 10am to 5pm (last orders 4.30pm)

Caffè + Gelato, Plant Centre: 10am to 5.30pm

Hestercombe House, Gallery, Gift Shop and Second-hand Book Shop: 11am to 5pm
