Add Hauser & Wirth just outside Bruton to your list of places to go with the children in Somerset. This award-winning gallery and multi-purpose arts centre has exhibitions of contemporary art, a landscaped garden and a varied programme of activities for children, families and local schools. Take the children to explore and experience art, design and nature in a family-friendly environment.
Make the most of your visit by going on a Family Saturday, usually taking place on the first Saturday of each month, from 10am to 12noon. Families can join interactive tours of the exhibitions, have a go at sketching and take part in a creative session in the learning room. Every other month there will be a practical activity, linking to either the season or the current exhibition; this might be puppet-making, miniature gardening or storytelling. These Family Saturdays are free sessions, designed for ages 6-14 years, but younger, accompanied children are welcome.
Outside is Oufolf Field, a large perennial meadow, offering a chance to interact with the great outdoors as well as find out more about the Somerset landscape. There are also events in the garden itself.
Onsite restaurant Roth Bar & Grill serves coffees, breakfasts, lunches and teas. Dinners are available on Fridays and Saturdays only. Book the restaurant in advance to avoid disappointment.
Tuesday-Sunday; closed on Mondays except Bank Holidays.
Please see Hauser & Wirth’s website for further details and to find out about activities and special events.
