Blow away the cobwebs on a family day out at Cwmcarn Forest near Crosskeys in Caerphilly County Borough. There are walking trails, a forest drive, play areas, challenging routes for experienced mountain bikers and a visitor centre.
Perfect for families with younger children, the Cwmcarn Wildlife Explorer Challenge is a 1.2-mile circular walk in search of hidden metal plaques. Just buy a booklet from the visitor centre and set off to explore. The scenic seven-mile forest drive includes car parks, adventure playgrounds, a woodland sculpture trail and plenty of picnic spots along the way.
There are furnished lodges, glamping pods and a campsite if you would like to turn your day out into a short break or family holiday. Finally, if the kids are keen to try mountain biking, orienteering or water activities, Caerphilly Adventures run Great Adventure Days at Cwmcarn Forest in school holidays for ages 7-12 years.
