Visit Bristol's exciting museum M Shed on selected dates until 27th October 2024 and treat the children to a ride on one of the large working exhibits.

One of the truly family-friendly places to visit with kids in Bristol, M Shed is home to a variety of large, outside exhibits. Visitors can see these exhibits during normal opening hours. On certain dates during spring, summer and autumn visitors can see one or more of them in action and even ride on them. It is likely to be one of the highlights of the day out for young visitors.
Treat the family to a 15-minute steam train ride on Bristol Harbour Railway, which dates from the 1870s. The railway runs from M Shed to the SS Great Britain along the quayside.
A 20-minute trip inside the electric cranes and the Fairbairn steam crane is sure to be a hit with kids. A minimum height limit of one metre applies. Watch these landmarks at work and discover their important role in working life on the dockside.
Take in the views of the harbour during a half-hour trip on board the John King, a diesel tug which towed cargo ships to the mouth of the Avon from Bristol City Docks. She also transported drinking water to ships in dry dock and even on occasion pulled vessels that had grounded back into deeper water.
