For a fantastic family day out head to The V&A, Dundee. The first ever dedicated design museum in Scotland and the only V&A museum anywhere in the world outside London, V&A Dundee provides a place of inspiration, discovery and learning through its mission to enrich lives through design. For the first time and in one place, V&A Dundee explores Scotland’s design heritage – its past, present and future.
At the heart of the museum, the Scottish Design Galleries feature 300 exhibits drawn from the V&A’s rich collections of Scottish design, as well as from museums and private collections across Scotland and the world. At the centre of these galleries stands the magnificent Charles Rennie Mackintosh Oak Room meticulously restored, conserved and reconstructed through a partnership between V&A Dundee, Glasgow Museums and Dundee City Council. It is planned that the galleries will be home to an ever-changing programme of events and exhibitions.
A great deal of planning and effort has gone in to making The V&A Dundee a truly family-friendly destination. There are two options for mealtimes, The Living-Room café and the Tatha Bar and Kitchen, both of which offer children’s menus. (As a third option, the picnic room will be open at weekends and school holiday times if you want to take your own packed lunch). There is also a buggy park on the ground floor and lockers too. Baby changing facilities are available on every floor in the museum.
