Royal Air Force Museum Midlands details...

The Royal Air Force Museum Midlands is one of the great places to go with the kids in Shropshire and there is no admission charge! Located only half an hour from the centre of Birmingham and with good motorway access, this wonderful attraction is packed with fun and interest for all ages.

There are over 70 historic aircraft on display, some suspended, in three wartime hangars and within the National Cold War Exhibition. Don’t miss the world’s oldest Spitfire and several other classic aircraft in the War in the Air Hangar.

Explore the National Cold War Exhibition itself to find the story of the Cold War brought to life in an interesting way. Both children and adults will be fascinated by Fun ’n’ Flight, the hands-on, interactive gallery designed to help visitors understand how aircraft fly – a great help for those parents trying to answer awkward questions about how planes stay up in the air! Then check out your ability to fly an aeroplane in the Black Hawk flight simulator.

Don’t miss the 4D Experience in the purpose-built theatre. The theatre shows two thrilling films – Red Arrows and Aerobatic Challenge. Lasting 5-6 minutes, the films are suitable for ages four years and over. Meanwhile, teenagers and adults can put on VR goggles and enjoy an exhilarating six minutes as a spitfire pilot in the Virtual Reality Zone.

The outdoor aviation-themed playground is sure to be a hit with any young would-be pilots! There are aircraft to board, a mini hangar and a mock control tower, plus a slide and climbing frame incorporated into a bespoke Handley Page Victor. In addition there are air traffic control and refuelling missions offering an interactive RAF experience.

Charges apply to car parking and to some activities such as the 4D experience and Virtual Reality Zone.

Please see the website of the RAF Museum Midlands to confirm all details before visiting.
