Slieve Gullion Forest Park details...

Pack a picnic basket and head to Slieve Gullion Forest Park near Newry with the children for an unforgettable and magical day out. Follow woodland trails, visit the ornamental walled garden with its outdoor stage and the wildlife pond and then spend time exploring the Giant’s Lair and adventure play park. This forest park is mostly conifer woodland, located on the side of a steeply rising mountain within the Ring of Gullion Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There is a way-marked trail and a stunning Slieve Gullion Scenic Drive, which takes visitors though 10km of mountain heath and woodland. The Giant’s Lair is a living storybook, set in a mile of woodland and is free to access and explore. The Story Trail takes children and adults alike along a wonderful journey of mystery Р see art features that help create a world of giants, dragons, witches and fairies inspired by local legend and folklore. Look for the fairy village up an oak tree or the Spring and Summer Fairies’ homes and sit on the giant’s head. Make time for a visit to the award-winning adventure play park where children will find climbing frames, slides, a zip wire and other outdoor equipment and be able to let off any surplus steam! Toddlers have their own area too for safe play and adults can make use of the trim trail. Don’t forget to make a wish on the wishing chair and find the way out of the maze Р always a challenge! This is a wonderful family day out anytime of year.
