RZSS Highland Wildlife Park

Set in the spectacular setting of the Cairngorms National Park, the RZSS Highland Wildlife Park in Kincraig offers families an interesting and exciting day out. Together with native Scottish species, the Park is home to more than 200 rare and endangered animals, indigenous in the world’s mountains and tundra. The Entrance Reserve, as visitors arrive, plunges you straight into the midst of the animals and here you will see Bactrian camels and yak as well as many other animals roaming free. Between the Entrance and Main Reserves discover Wolf Wood, a walk-around area that gives visitors the opportunity to see at close hand European forest reindeer and the Park’s European wolf pack. The Main Reserve is accessed either by daily guided Land Rover tour (bookable in the shop, with a suggested small donation) or in your own vehicle. There is no limit to the number of times you can go round, as animals are active at different times of the day, so a revisit will certainly be rewarding. In Main Reserve, visitors can see animals such as the two male polar bears, European elk and herd of European bison and on the Woodland Walk, keep an eye open for the wild red squirrel or the Scottish wildcat. Be sure not to miss the special feeding times and daily programme of talks, perfect for the family to enjoy together. Some of these are with keepers and visitors get to learn about the different species in their care, a particular highlight being the Amur tigers’ talk at the tiger enclosure.
