Kenilworth Castle and Elizabethan Garden

Kenilworth Castle and Elizabethan Garden is a great day out in Warwickshire. Visit one of the largest historic attractions in the West Midlands and one of the country’s most magnificent castles.

Built mostly from local red sandstone, these stunning ruins have plenty for the whole family to enjoy. Well known as the home of Robert Dudley, Queen Elizabeth I’s great love, the castle was transformed into a showpiece mansion in 1563.

Follow in the footsteps of the Queen herself in the spectacular Elizabethan Garden – authentically recreated after being lost to the world for four centuries. This wonderful garden features an aviary and a fountain.

For children, the special audio tour, activity pack and interactive exhibits will bring the castle’s fascinating history to life. Don’t miss the dressing up clothes in the Stables exhibition.

There are plenty of live-action events and family activities. Take the family to watch knights in battle, enjoy Halloween frights and get hands-on with history at school holiday activities. Just have a look at the website for details.

Open daily in summer and at weekends in winter, the family-friendly Stables Tearoom is the perfect place to take a break with its seasonal menu of daily specials as well as cakes and Fair Trade coffee and tea. In summer, children’s lunch bags are ideal for the younger members of your party.

Picnics are welcome with benches sited outside the tearoom – alternatively, just bag your spot on the large grassed areas around the site. There will be plenty of room for the kids to run about.
