For an exciting and informative family fun day out, head to Glasgow’s renowned Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery, where a real Spitfire soars above a menagerie of record-breaking beasts; alien plants and local birds give an insight into Scotland’s natural history, Old Masters rub shoulders with Glasgow Boys and Viking treasures and Mummies tell tales of Egyptian gods! The scope of the museum’s exhibits is astounding!
Popular with young and old alike, The Kelvingrove Bees in their hive in the Environmental Discovery Centre live their lives daily in full view. You can observe the life cycle of these important little inhabitants as they fly out to gather nectar, produce honey and care for their queen and young.
Head to the Centre Hall for 1pm (3pm on Sundays) for the daily recital on the Museum’s magnificent organ built by Lewis and Company in London for the Glasgow International Exhibition of 1901. Kelvingrove also hosts many exhibitions and visiting attractions throughout the year, be sure to check with the museum for all the latest details.
