Take your budding archaeologists to Jorvik DIG where you can grab a trowel and discover old Roman, Viking, medieval and Victorian relics (replicas) in four excavation pits based on real life digs that have taken place in the city of York.
A NEW exhibition is open now, offering a unique perspective on the Roman remains hidden beneath the ground at Aldborough Roman Site. The current installation is the first of two Soundmarks projects hosted by DIG. In February 2024 a new exhibition inspired by the latest research into the Roman archaeology of York will premiere in DIG’s exhibition space.
Timed tours only and pre-booking advisable especially during school holidays. Look out for Little Digger events when younger visitors can have fun in the excavation pits and listen to stories about the past.
See DIG’s website for ticket options, including the Pastport to other York attractions including Barley Hall and JORVIK Viking Centre. Tickets are valid for 12 months after purchase for free re-visits. DIG entry is £28.50 for a family of 4, and £33 for a family of 5.
Opening times are variable, please check the website for details.
