Holkham is a beautiful place rich in wildlife, history and architecture. It is set in an epic landscape, combining unspoilt coastline, big skies and open countryside. Take in a spot of culture and visit the magnificent 18th-century Hall with all its treasures. Wander around to the Walled Garden where you will find six acres just waiting to be explored. Look out for a children’s trail on gardening forks!
Children will love to visit the Holkham Stories Experience where the rich 400-year heritage and exciting, innovative present and future is all brought to life. What’s more, discover the fun and interactive story of food and farming at Holkham, without having to put wellies on! Let the ‘talking tools’ tell you their use; test your foody knowledge with the table-top game; enjoy the ‘Holkham Year’ film nestled comfortably on a bean bag, and discover what the Holkham gamekeepers wear!
Outside, there’s a Woodland Adventure Play Area for young explorers, with its tree house, high-level walkways, rope ladders and zip wire, plus a special area just for toddlers. On high days and holidays families can explore further with cycle hire or discover Holkham’s watery world by rowing boat.
Don’t miss the Holkham Ropes Course! Once you’ve got your harness on and completed an induction with the team, it is time to get your feet off the ground and navigate wobbly crossings, swinging bridges, see-saws and best of all, the zip wires which will get you safely back on the ground. Mums and dads are encouraged to have a go too! It is open all summer and tickets can be booked online in advance, or on the day!
When your day comes to an end and little legs get tired, you can finish off your visit in the Courtyard Café, where only the best, locally-sourced food is served. There is also a gift shop, showcasing the work of local artisan suppliers.
Remember to look out for children’s events through the season, including outdoor theatre, tractor trailer rides, pond dipping, deer walks, bushcraft sessions, kids yoga and much more!
There’s a Woodland Play Area, Walled Garden, Courtyard Café, Gift Shop and Visitor Reception.
Cycle Hire and Ropes Courses take place on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, 9am-5pm.
