The Eden Project in Cornwall is not to be missed, whatever the weather. Situated just outside St Austell on the south coast of Cornwall, this fascinating, world famous attraction is dominated by two huge enclosures consisting of adjoining domes, which house thousands of plant species in many ecosystems.
Visit the incredible Rainforest Biome where you can go on the Canopy Walkway among the treetops and experience the lovely tropical weather. See the beautiful waterfall, the totem pole sculpture, a Malaysian hut and the bananas high up in the trees, while looking out for the Roul-Roul partridges and Sulawesi white-eye birds.
Inside the Mediterranean Biome you can walk through landscapes of the Mediterranean, South Africa and California and explore the amazing variety of plants that grow in these warm temperate regions. Look out for the new Western Australia Garden, which has some rather unusual specimens. The child-friendly outdoor gardens have miles of paths that twist and turn, with some great surprises! Look out for the Secret Garden and the giant wooden ship in a sea of tealeaves.
In The Core building you can press buttons, wind handles and look inside things as you have fun combined with learning, from ecosystems and evolution, to climate change and plant resources. See the Giant Nutcracker, the Plant Engine, the film on the making of the Eden Project and lots more. There’s even a secret entrance for children.
Children have plenty of exhilarating outdoor activities to keep them occupied. The youngest visitors can enjoy scrabbling and climbing on the Nest climbing frame, while older children can have a go on England’s longest and fastest zip wire, as well as other adventure activities. Age, height and weight restrictions apply. There is a packed calendar of events throughout the year, many of them for children, and the ice rink in winter is always extremely popular.
