For a day out that the children will thoroughly enjoy visit Dover Castle. Spectacularly situated above the White Cliffs of Dover, this magnificent castle has guarded our shores from invasion for 20 centuries.
At its core lies the medieval royal palace and beneath the castle, dug into the White Cliffs, are the Secret Wartime Tunnels used during WWII. Today visitors can explore the darkly atmospheric tunnels, now with a vivid recreation of the Dunkirk Evacuation, including an underground hospital.
Follow the dramatic journey of a wounded WWII pilot, fighting for his life as he is rushed through to the operating theatre. Don’t miss the WWI Fire Command Post and see the gun drills every weekend from July to September.
Then experience the colourful contrast of the richly-furnished Great Tower, where costumed actors introduce medieval life at King Henry II’s court. With exciting exhibitions, winding tunnels to explore and ghosts to hunt out, an action-packed, great value family day out awaits!
There are four refreshment outlets at Dover castle. There is the Great Tower Cafe, the NAAFI Restaurant, the Secret Wartime Tunnels Tearoom and there is also an ice-cream parlour open at peak periods.
There’s plenty of space to breathe in the lovely sea air, or simply sit and admire the view when little legs get tired! Great children’s events are regularly held.
